It was an easy decision when deciding what to write about today! Today is the birthday of one of my FAV people, my best friend Lia! She had a big party to celebrate the occasion, but because of my health and other factors could not attend. Breaks my heart that I was not there, but I was TRULY present in spirit. Can't wait to hear all about it!
I have known her for twenty-one years (which baffles me!) and consider her to be not only my friend, but my family. So, in honor of her, I wanted to write down a little of our history, and why I love her so much!
We met while I was living in Huntington Beach, California. I was in a band called Milk and Honey and a few of us lived together. It was all girls, so you can just guess that things were a little chaotic at times! For some reason, I was the one who would always find us our new place. Maybe my personality? Well, when moving into our new place, we decided that we would add another roommate. Lia had heard of the band and had been to our show(s). She heard that we needed a roommate and came down to our gig to talk to us about it. As soon as we started talking, there was an instant bond. There are people in your life that you meet and who are destined to be a huge part of your life. She is one of mine. I offered for her to share a room with me, and that was the beginning of our sure to be lifelong friendship. A life so far that has been filled with lots of laughs, cries, and life experiences.
|Giggle time with Baby Girl!|
|With her first born...!|
Don't get me wrong, we have had our ups and downs! There was a two year period in which we did not speak. Because of a misunderstanding there were a lot of things said and space apart was the best option. That was a rough time for me. During that time I got married and had my first child. Even though I had my family there right after the birth of Baby Girl, it was not the same without Lia being part of it. I get emotional thinking about it even now. Anyhow, after her birth, I wrote an email to Lia (there is nothing like a rough pregnancy and birth to bring things into perspective), and put out the proverbial olive branch to mend what was broken. Since then, I have had another child (in which Lia and her husband are Godparents to) and I was there for her when her first child was born. She now has two boys and is a great Mama Bear!!!
I think the main thing I love about our friendship and her as a person, is the fact that no matter how much time goes by, when we speak, it's as if no time has passed. I seek out her opinion on many things and she knows that she can do the same. She knows me so well and many times knows just the right thing to say. How? I don't know! She just does!!! She helps to ground me (along with the Hubster), and reminds me that I am loved without judgement. It makes my heart happy to have that, not many people do.
She is no longer the Gorgeous nineteen year old that I first met. She is a GORGEOUS WOMAN that has a wonderful family, powerhouse career, and MANY people who feel just the same way about her that I do. That says a lot about the person that she is!
So, Happy Birthday to my best friend AND sister Lia.....Love you more than you know!
Til next time,
P.S. I hope that it is ok with Lia that I shared these pictures! Wanted this to be a surprise!!!
