OH MY......Vanessa

It is my pleasure to offer to you the first interview for my blog.  I will be featuring individuals that ooze style and knowledge  about fashion, music, food, or all of the above.  I will be asking similar questions to each person.  It should be interesting to see how their answers are different and how they stay the same.  We all share a commonality, and that is that we are individual beings and we all have glorious beating hearts! I love speaking with individuals that have a passion for what they do and for how they live.  There is a saying "Pura Vida" which has many meanings, but to me symbolizes a love of life.  My first interviewee embraces this with gusto and spirit.  I know that you will enjoy her just as much as I enjoyed spending time with her.

Vanessa Lucero LOVES all that is represented by the Forties.  She is the Woman behind The Mariposa Chronicles blog page and a kind Human Being.   She incorporates other decades in the fashion statements that she makes, but the Forties remain her True Love. Let's see just what Sass and Wisdom she has to offer up!

Where are you from originally?
I am from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Have you always been interested in Vintage?
Wow! That's a hard question.  I was always told, "If  it's not broken, don't try to fix it!"  Also, "Use it until it doesn't work anymore, take it apart, and use it for something else." Recycle! Recycle!  For my graduation I wore a dress from the 50's.  I bought items from American Family Services, which is like the Salvation Army here.   I learned this way of thinking from my both my maternal and paternal grandparents.

What inspires you most about the Forties?
Let's distinguish...In the summer I wear items from the 30's because they are flowy and comfortable, and in cooler weather I wear items from the 40's.  I love the 40's because of the craftsmanship, it's sentimental to me in a way.  I makes me feel beautiful, and fits me better than modern day clothing.

Who is your fashion icon? Why?
It is hard to limit it to one woman.  When I am down, I turn on The Women, and not only for the fashion.  I guess from the movies in the 30's and 40's.  The hats, furs, length of the skirts, and the hair styles were ideal.  I can tell just how they styled it. Linda Darnell is my hair icon.  She ROCKS!  It's hard to see it in color (referring to the movie- The Women).  The difference between black and white and color is that it somehow loses it's essence.  I also look at the furnishings in the background.  I want to be as authentic as possible. When I need a pick me up, I turn on this movie!  It makes me dig into myself and find the motivation.  I am also inspired my Minerva magazines. favorite movie icon would be Mildred Pierce.

What do you think your fashion vision says about you?
It says I am very strong and confident with flair!  I am thankful that I can get away with wearing things that some can't.  I do not dress this way to gather attention!

What is your favorite piece of clothing?
Oh my God...the blue striped jacket!  She is speaking of the very jacket that I steered her toward while in Santa Fe.

If you could explain yourself in five words, what would they be?

I would like to say a hearty thank you to Vanessa for gracing me with her time and sharing just what makes her such a style Vixen!  If you are interested in learning lore about this Wonderful Woman you can follow her on twitter @vintagelucero.  Her photo stream is on flicker.  You can also find her on The Mariposa Chronicles site.
